The Facility

Our state-of-the art AAHA certified facility opened in June of 1998 in Castle Rock, Colorado.  The entire clinic has over 15,000 square feet of working area.  Our lower level is used for boarding dogs, cats, and exotic animals.  In addition, there is a conference room, staff exercise area, and rooms for grooming and bathing dogs.  The upper level is the hospital area which is used for medical, dental and surgical procedures.  We have a large waiting area with a built in floor scale.  There are five standard exam rooms and one large "special" exam room which can be used during after-hours emergencies.  Other space consists of a pharmacy, medical library, doctors' offices, a large treatment room, laboratory, surgical suite, intensive care unit, radiology, ultrasound, and wards for hospitalized animals.

Our staff currently consists of eight veterinarians, multiple certified veterinary technicians, a nutritional consultant, and many other support staff such as office and kennel staff.  In addition, we have groomers and bathers in our boarding department.  We also work closely with a boarded radiologist who performs echocardiograms, abdominal ultrasounds, and radiology reviews at least weekly.

Below you will find pictures and explanations of our facility and our services offered:

We have six exam rooms for routine appointments and consultations.   Each room has a sink, computer network, X-ray viewer, exam table, and seating area.   The lower picture is our specialty exam room which can be used for more extensive patient evaluation including the use of an ultrasound machine, video otoscope, and an ECG machine.  This specialty room is also used for after hours emergencies.

Intensive Care Unit

Our intensive care unit has six cages for cats and dogs.  The room has central oxygen for our critical patients.  We also have a circulating warm water blanket and three intravenous fluid pumps at our disposal.  If needed, monitoring equipment such as an ECG can be attached to our patients.  There is a video camera above the cages so the patients are never out of our watchful eyes.

Our surgery suite consists of two surgery tables with room to expand for a third.  We are capable of almost all elective surgical procedures as well as most soft-tissue and orthopedic surgery.   Our patient monitoring equipment includes an ECG, pulse oximetry, esophageal stethoscope, blood pressure monitor, and a veterinary technician who carefully monitors anesthesia.  We use isoflourane gas anesthetic as well as a Sevoflurane ( a new state of the art gas anesthetic also used in human pediatric anesthesia) on almost all surgical patients.  We also have surgical cautery and suction if needed.  All animals in surgery are placed on a warm water blanket to maintain their proper body temperature.

Treatment Area:

On the left is an overview of our entire treatment room.  This room is used for routine patient examinations, dentistries, minor surgical procedures, and flexible endoscopy.  On the right is a close-up of our two incubators, oxygen cage, and emergency crash cart.  We also have a dental X-ray machine for aiding in some of our dental procedures.

Laboratory:

In our laboratory, we can perform complete blood counts, biochemical profiles, fecal examinations, urinalysis, cytologic examinations, and various other tests.  If a specialty test is required that we cannot perform in house, we send the sample to an outside lab (the lab picks up samples from us twice a day) and usually have the results in less than a day.

Radiology and Ultrasound:

We have a separate room for both our X-ray machine and our ultrasound unit.  After processing the X-ray film, it arrives at our X-ray viewing area (seen directly above) for our evaluation.  From left to right on the X-ray bank are pictures of two hips, and two abdomens (different views), all of dogs.

Hospital Wards:

Our hospital contains five wards similar to the one pictured above including one large set of runs for larger dogs, and an isolation room for animals that may have contagious diseases.  We hospitalize our cats separately from the dogs in order to minimize animal stress.

Boarding Facilities:

Dogboard 1.jpg (89220 bytes)     Catboard 1.jpg (113988 bytes)

Our boarding facilities (located on our lower level) consist of two large rooms of dog runs (one is pictured at the above left) and one room full of kitty condos (above right).  Our dog runs are various sizes to accomodate all different sizes of dogs.  We can also accommodate exotic animals such as birds and reptiles.

Well, that is the end of the tour....We hope you enjoyed the pictures of our new facility.  If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to E-mail us.
